Kenya's Private Gun Ownership the Largest in East Africa

Kenya has the largest number of guns in civilian hands in eastern Africa amid rising gun attacks while Rwanda has the least, a global survey shows.
Data from Sidney-based GunPolicy.org, a website backed by the United Nations, puts the estimated number of guns possessed by Kenyan civilians at about 680,000, comprising licit and illicit firearms.

Thirteen Face Court Over Illegal Guns in Rwanda

Police in Musanze District have handed thirteen people over to the prosecution to face charges of illegal possession of firearms and plans to cause insecurity in the country.
Superintendent Emmanuel Hitayezu, the Northern Province's Regional Police Spokesperson said the suspects (names withheld) were arrested separately early last month.
He said that the police seized 8 submachine guns (SMG) which they handed to prosecution on Friday.

The Police have in the past conducted various campaigns to get firearm weapons from the public, but the rate at which they are causing harm shows that they are still scattered around the country.

Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) has announced that it will, Friday, start a three-day exercise to destroy old ammunition.
According to the RDF and army Spokesperson, Col Joseph Nzabamwita, over 40 tonnes of ammunition will be destroyed at Gabiro School of Infantry in the Eastern Province.
"The ammunition to be destroyed include unexploded ordinances like grenades, bombs, bullets and others," Col. Nzabamwita said.

Kigali — Rwanda National Police (RNP) has warned people who illegally possess firearms, to voluntarily surrender them to the concerned authorities before stiff measures are taken.
