In an effort to cut down the number of illegally held firearms and to identify weapons that may have been used in criminal activities, cabinet ministers yesterday approved an amendment to the Gun Control Act regulating firearms and ammunition. The amendment, proposed by opposition Smer party MP Robert Kalinák, stipulates that people who own firearms without a proper licence, will be able to hand them into the police without fear of punishment.
