MONTREAL, Canada — Does it make sense to assume all shotgun and rifle owners are law-abiding citizens, but that everyone behind the wheel of a car is a drunk? Isn't that the message behind the federal Justice Department's recent proposal to institute random roadside breathalyzer tests? On one hand, the government, hiding behind the skirts of its latest sock puppet, sends Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner to pontificate: "Irrational government policy had to be... (GunPolicy.org)

Judge Ricardo Urbina of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled Friday that the Washington, D.C., firearm ordinances enacted after the Supreme Court's D.C. v. Heller decision in 2008 "permissibly regulate the exercise of the core Second Amendment right to use firearms for the purpose of self-defense in the home." Urbina dismissed a case brought by Dick Heller, the same plaintiff who challenged the previous D.C. ordinance in the Supreme Court. Heller... (GunPolicy.org)

BASEL, Switzerland - An armed gang of masked men raided a casino packed with about 600 guests early Sunday and made off with hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to Swiss prosecutors. In a statement, prosecutors in Basel described a scene like an action-film heist: About 10 men dressed in black arrived in two cars at the Grand Casino near Basel shortly after 4 a.m. One smashed the front door with a sledgehammer, and the others ran inside with machine guns and... Three boys, aged 12 and 13, have been expelled from school after they were caught on cctv playing with a bb gun. The airgun, which fires plastic pellets, was taken into Heartlands Academy in Birmingham last month. A petition was started to try to get the boys reinstated. One boy's father, Ibrahim Abdillahi, said he "deeply regrets" a gun was taken to school. The academy said it took discipline "extremely seriously", as well as the safety of students and staff. Mr... DETROIT - Nine alleged members of a Christian militia group that was girding for battle with the Antichrist were charged Monday with plotting to kill a police officer and slaughter scores more by bombing the funeral — all in hopes of touching off an uprising against the U.S. government. Seven men and one woman believed to be part of the Michigan-based Hutaree were arrested over the weekend in raids in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. The ninth suspect was arrested Monday... I remember my friend showing me the gun. It was in her dad's closet, propped up against the wall and hidden behind hanging clothing. I was in the first or second grade so the memory is fuzzy, but I can still vividly see the long, skinny black gun. I know almost nothing about firearms but I'll guess that it was a shotgun, hopefully locked and not loaded. I didn't share the incident with my mom after it happened -- as my friend told me that we weren't supposed to be... (GunPolicy.org)

Earlier this month, I was interviewed by a reporter from Politico regarding Barack Obama's recent White House chat with John Walsh of America's Most Wanted. During their tet-a-tet video-op, the President endorsed the notion of expanding the federal DNA data base to include biological samples from all persons arrested, regardless of offense and regardless of subsequent findings of guilt or innocence. As an aside, I expressed my disappointment that the President had not... (GunPolicy.org)

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – Opposition Leader Mia Mottley wants a clearly defined policy regarding the presence of guns in the Barbados parliament. Mottley told reporters that she wanted the David Thompson government to take that action before Parliament is reconvened in the middle of April. "If they are not to be banned because there is no reason to have a firearm in Parliament, then whatever systems are necessary for firearms to be held and secured must be put in... (GunPolicy.org)
