NAIROBI — A cattle rustler who travelled more than 200 kilometres to surrender an illegal firearm had to endure a long wait after he found the district commissioner's office deserted. The 36-year-old thief travelled from Adurkoit village near the Kenya-Uganda border to the Kapenguria District headquarters to hand his AK-47 rifle to DC Alan Machari. The man, who was escorted by Adurkoit sub-location assistant chief David Yarangiro and Warriors Rehabilitation... (GunPolicy.org)

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has issued a welcome decision upholding rules on gun storage in the home. Under state law, when the owner is not present, guns must either have a trigger lock activated or be stored in a locked container. These are sensible safety measures that do very little to inconvenience gun owners and much to prevent tragedy. Trigger locks in particular are easy and inexpensive to use. Yet how long the high court's ruling will stand is... (GunPolicy.org)

The brutal slaying of three people connected to the U.S. consulate in Juarez, Mexico, last weekend has called attention to a crisis that is getting too little attention and resources in Washington: Mexico's desperate battle against drug traffickers. For Juarez, and for the democratic government of Felipe Calderón, this has become a fight for survival -- a war as bloody and as important as those being fought in Iraq, Afghanistan or Pakistan. But though Mexican stability... (GunPolicy.org)

It's amazing what a little negative publicity can do. The legislature would love to help out Murfreesboro arms merchant Ronnie Barrett -- a big political contributor, NRA hotshot and boyfriend of Republican Rep. Donna Rowland. All he wants is a state law just for him to force the Transportation Department to knuckle under to his demands for a new road to his ammo factory. But after a few pesky newspaper stories raised questions about this very special legislation, it's... (GunPolicy.org)

MOBILE, Alabama - Three witnesses testified Tuesday that the man who owned a Mobile gun store helped them evade background checks that would have barred them from buying firearms. Larry Dale McCoy owned Larry's Sporting Goods & Gun Shop, along with his wife, Lynda McCoy. Law enforcement officers shut down the Pleasant Valley Road store last year. The McCoys are on trial in U.S. District Court, accused of violating the law governing firearms dealers. What prosecutors... (GunPolicy.org)

The loud pop of a semi-automatic rifle shatters the quiet of a still winter day. The sun is shining through the motionless branches of bare trees in a large wooded area, reflecting off the sunglasses of a slender, dark-haired German. He takes aim once more, then fires. Just a few yards away, a slightly round, white-haired man lifts his weapon to his shoulder and eyes the target in his scope. This man, however, could have come from a Central Casting file marked "Hasidic... (GunPolicy.org)
