Victoria Police has been warned its $18 million tender process to re-arm officers with semi-automatic guns is flawed and may endanger members. German gun giant Heckler & Koch alleges the process is rigged by police officials to give Smith & Wesson's cheaper alternative an advantage in the battle to provide more than 10,000 guns. It comes just weeks after the Office of Police Integrity accused Victoria Police of neglecting weapons training. In a letter to Police... (GunPolicy.org)

SAN ANTONIO — Added agents have allowed the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to inspect roughly 1,000 licensed gun dealers in the Houston area, an overdue check to ensure dealers are maintaining paperwork needed to investigate gunrunning rings, said the agency's acting director Thursday. "We've never had inspectors like this, not in a long time," Acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson said in an interview with The Associated Press following the signing... (GunPolicy.org)

WASHINGTON — On the surface, it looks like it's been a bad month for gun-rights groups. Despite the setbacks, however, there's... (GunPolicy.org)

The letter of intent signed in San Antonio would see U.S. federal agencies share firearms trafficking information with the attorney general of Mexico, with the aim of tracing illegal weapons and prosecuting arms smugglers. The announcement came... (GunPolicy.org)

Thanks to the health care protests over the past week, the nation seems to have come to a fragile consensus on a few critical issues. For instance, government-run death panels — not good. And, Nazis — nobody likes them. Interestingly, we do not have any agreement at all on the question of whether it is a good plan to bring a gun to a gathering of angry and overwrought people. To be honest, I thought we might be able to nail this one down. But no. "The question... (GunPolicy.org)

New York's billionaire mayor, Michael Bloomberg, is stepping in where President Barack Obama fears to tread — confronting America's powerful gun lobby. In the country that holds a commanding global lead in civilian gun ownership, it promises to be a hard fight. No matter how it goes, America's position at the top of the list of gun-owning nations looks secure. Up to 280 million guns are estimated to be in private hands and the arsenal is growing year by year. On a... (GunPolicy.org)
