Armed AirTran Airways Pilot Charged With Intoxication in Vegas

LAS VEGAS — An armed AirTran Airways pilot was charged with operating an aircraft under the influence after a federal screener at McCarran International Airport smelled alcohol, authorities said Thursday.
Las Vegas police arrested Oliver Paul Reason Jr., 37, in the cockpit of the AirTran plane shortly after he passed through an airport checkpoint Wednesday night, according to the Transportation Security Administration, police and the airline.

The views of the public will be sought by the National Guns Control Committee during the public awareness campaign involving the illegal use of firearms.
Committee chairman Jerry Singirok yesterday announced that plans were being finalised for the exercise and would be formally launched in Port Moresby to begin awareness. He said the awareness program would lead to the major gun summit proposed for June in Goroka.

United Nations and Brazil Work to Rid Haitian Guns

BRASILIA — The United Nations and Brazil are studying ways to collect the hundreds of thousands of illegal arms among Haitian citizens, Brazilian officials said Friday.
Brazilian troops are leading the U.N. peacekeeping force in Haiti that took over duties from a U.S.-led interim force back in May.
Foreign troops first arrived in Haiti following the Feb. 29 departure of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who left amid growing pressure from armed rebels.
