CHICAGO — Even as more states make it easier for people to carry handguns in public, citizen demand to legally carry a small firearm has lagged far behind expectations, according to law enforcement data from states that have recently relaxed their handgun laws. Local sheriff's departments in states like Missouri say they have not been bowled over with demands from citizens wanting to pack heat. Police say they likely prevented bloodshed Sunday when they seized an AK-47 with a loaded 200-round drum magazine. Police were on the lookout for a blue Cadillac that supposedly contained several weapons when, about 10:30 p.m., a car matching the description turned onto Dixie from the parking lot of a party store just as an officer was passing by, said Buena Vista Township Police Sgt. Sean Waterman. The officer followed the car to a home on Baldwin near South... (GunPolicy.org)
