JOHANNESBURG — The Democratic Party has called for changes to the draft Firearms Control Bill following a Sunday newspaper exposé which claimed firearm competency certificates were being sold to applicants without testing or training them.
DP Safety and Security spokesman Graham McIntosh said the Sunday Times report was a clear indication of the serious problems that lay ahead for the new Firearms Control Bill.

'We Must Resist Arms Lobby Pressure' MEP Kinnock Tells Blair

Labour MEP Glenys Kinnock today urged Tony Blair's Government to adopt a more ethical foreign policy and resist pressure from the arms industry.
Mrs Kinnock, who is the party's spokesperson on International Development in the European Parliament, said the Government should look to control the power of multinational companies.

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — The Honduran Congresswill propose an exchange of cash, food and tax rebates for guns in a bid to remove a million wartime weapons from circulation and reduce violent crime, a legislator said Saturday.
Jack Arevalo, a deputy with the ruling Liberal Party, told reporters the disarmament plan would be written into a new law forcing holders of weapons to register their arms.
