An aircraft mechanic who shot dead his estranged British wife and their two-year-old daughter in Seattle has killed himself on an approach road to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. Actor turned National Rifle Association President Charlton Heston apologized Monday for using his monthly Guns & Ammo column to blast 60 Minutes for a profile of himself he hadn't yet seen. PARIS — French authorities, alarmed by an increase in urban violence, tightened the country's arms laws on Tuesday by widening a decree on the issue of weapon permits. Owners of hunting shotguns and single shot handguns will now require a hunting permit, or belong to a gun club. They will also be subject to investigation.
