Uzi pistols from a cache of 160 stolen from a Queens warehouse 19 months ago are regularly turning up at crime scenes and during police searches in the city. To date, 20 of the Uzis have been recovered — leaving 140 of the stolen weapons still unaccounted for. WELLINGTON — Police Minister Jack Elder tonight denied the Government had 'dumped' the Thorpe Report which recommended tighter gun controls and said it was still under consideration. Labour's justice spokesman Phil Goff said the cabinet strategy committee last week decided to defer indefinitely implementation of the report's recommendations, which included gun registration and banning military-style semi-automatic weapons.
