The death of Michael Coffin was a practical joke gone wrong, a defence lawyer told the jury in the High Court at Auckland yesterday. Auckland barber Christopher Thomas, 24, is accused of murdering the 21-year-old chef by shooting him at point-blank range in the back of the head on August 11 last year.
