The mandatory minimum sentences for possession of firearms brought in by the Conservative government in 2008 are unconstitutional, ruled the Ontario Court of Appeal in decisions released Tuesday morning. They are "cruel and unusual punishment" and "grossly disproportionate," found the five-judge panel unanimously.
