By the narrowest of margins, the House of Commons has voted to save the long-gun registry. The vote is a victory for common sense and against wedge-issue politics. Conservatives, egged on by the right-wing commentariat, campaigned to kill the registry on grounds that it is "costly" and "ineffective" (Prime Minister Stephen Harper's words).
