CHICAGO — Firearms are kept unlocked in nearly half of U.S. gun-owning households where children are adolescents, and some are loaded and unlocked, a study said on Monday. Roughly one-third of American households with children have at least one gun, and a Harvard University analysis of nearly 400 gun owners surveyed in 2004 found the firearm was unlocked in 42 percent of homes in which children were 13 years old or older.
