Firearms theft has declined markedly from as many as 4,000 a year in the 1990s to 664 in the first half of 2004, a new study reveals. The study by the Australian Institute of Criminology researchers Jenny Mouzos and Yuka Sakurai found 664 firearms were stolen in 318 separate incidents studied, almost three-quarters involving burglaries of private homes. Rifles accounted for 58 per cent of all guns stolen, shotguns 24 per cent, handguns nine per cent and air rifles... (
