National parks don't allow visitors to carry firearms. Visitors don't need to, if self-protection is a concern. Every year, national parks attract a population about equal to that of the United States — now 300 million. But the crime rate in parks is so negligible that when someone is murdered there, it's national news. Violent crimes do happen there, to be sure. But they're the exception that proves the rule.
