Victoria Police officers are using revolvers more than 40 years old, and there are claims that one in every five does not work properly.
A leaked internal police report shows essential maintenance on some ageing revolvers takes up to 10 times as long as normal.
This has caused backlogs: weapons are being serviced up to eight months later than they should be.
