LONDON — South Africa will crack down on illegal gun ownership as part of efforts to combat a wave of crime, newly installed President Thabo Mbeki said on Sunday. Speaking from South Africa on BBC television's Breakfast with Frost programme, Mbeki said many crimes were concentrated in poor black areas, adding that the level of criminality was linked to a longstanding lack of faith in the legal system.
