Age Raise for Handguns Defeated

DENVER — A bill supporters said could have prevented violence like the Columbine High School massacre was defeated by a Senate committee Monday, despite the tearful pleas of a 16-year-old girl who escaped the carnage.
The bill would have required safe storage of firearms and raised the legal age for handgun possession from 18 to 21, two of the gun-control measures supported by Gov. Bill Owens, a Republican.
