This was an ugly, disturbing week for a nation struggling to agree on ways to reduce gun violence. A leader of the National Rifle Association, Wayne LaPierre, accused President Clinton of being "willing to accept a certain level of killing to further his political agenda." After Clinton denied that obscene and cynical allegation, and called again for tougher gun controls, LaPierre cut loose with another blast of rhetoric.
