Gun-related incidents have notably decreased in 2004 compared to year 2003. In 2004, a total of 553 incidents were reported in the national print media, in average 46 cases per month. In 2003, however, 62 cases were reported monthly. However, the number of victims in 2004 (829) is higher than in 2003 (578).

Robberies and personal conflicts, the two most common categories of gun-related incidents, accounted for 77% of the total amount of incidents in 2004.
