Collection and Disposal

The Government is endeavouring to encourage the population to collect the weapons they have voluntarily or to persuade them to do so by offering material inducements.

The Government of the Sudan has prior experience in this field: in 2000 a national campaign was planned with the objective of collecting light weapons from the Darfur region, in western Sudan, and over 9,441 weapons were collected, some of which were brought into use, some of them were destroyed and others were dismantled and their metal parts reused.
