Section 8. (1) Where the appropriate authority1 is satisfied that a person, who applies under section 7 for a firearm user licence,2 an estate gun licence,3 a sporting firearm licence4 or a firearm user (employee) sub-licence,5 is fit to possess a firearm, the appropriate authority may on payment of the prescribed fee by the applicant grant a provisional licence in the form prescribed.
(2) A provisional licence is valid for six months and is subject to the conditions set out in it.
(3) A provisional licence does not authorise its holder to possess, purchase or acquire a firearm.
(4) A provisional licence entitles its holder only to use a firearm on a shooting range under the supervision of a designated institution.
Section 9. (1) Where a person has successfully complied with the conditions of a provisional licence, the appropriate authority may, if satisfied that the holder qualifies for a licence in accordance with section 7(5) grant the licence originally applied for…
