GMA Wants Tougher Laws on Firearms Control, Gun Crimes

Police estimate there are 800,000 registered guns in the country and at least another 400,000 illegal ones. They said unlicensed weapons figured in 85 percent of gun-related crimes in the Philippines over the past 10 years.
In 2003, the President banned licensed civilian gun owners from carrying the weapons in public places and revoked all existing Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence.
