MANILA -- In compliance to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's directive against proliferation of loose firearms around the country, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is giving police units nationwide a performance target to reduce the number of unregistered firearms by three percent every month.
PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa, in a letter of instruction 39/09 entitled "Kontra Boga," prescribed additional guidelines and procedures in conducting a determined campaign against loose firearms throughout the country.
Under LOI Kontra Boga, the PNP shall conduct aggressive police operations targeting unregistered and unlicensed firearms in the hands of threat groups, criminal elements and the civilian population, as well as firearms with expired or unrenewed licenses.
