Canada Increases Gun Exports to Countries with 'Dubious' Human Rights

OTTAWA — Bahrain, Algeria and Iraq, countries with dubious human rights records or a history of violent internal conflict, have recently become new buyers of Canadian-made guns and ammunition, an analysis of federal data shows.
The analysis by The Canadian Press found that Canadian exports to those countries swelled by 100 per cent from 2011 to 2012, the most recent figures publicly available.

Unlicensed 3D printing of guns is illegal and punishable by up to 10 years in prison, the government said on Thursday, as it moved to address growing public concern about plastic guns.
Weapons made by printing their components are already banned under the 1968 Firearms Act, but the Home Office has updated its rules to prohibit the manufacture, sale, purchase and possession of them unless properly licensed.

A man who shot and killed his friend after the victim had dared him to pull the trigger of a gun has been jailed for four years.
Craig Mullarney (22) told gardaí that Kris Emmet (21), had assured him that the double-barrelled shotgun's safety catch was on. Ballistics tests on the legally held firearm over a year later found that the weapon would go off even when the safety catch was on.

Police in Iceland have shot dead a gunman - the first time armed officers have shot and killed someone in the country.
Officers were called to an apartment in the Reykjavik suburb of Arbaer early today when a man fired a shotgun from inside the flat.
Two policemen, who were not armed, were wounded when trying to enter the apartment. A special armed unit then entered and fired at the man, who was taken to hospital, where he died.
