PRAGUE — Czech police accused arms trader Petr Bernatik, owner of the Technoex company, of illegal sale of machine guns and ammunition to Slovakia, the daily Hospodarske Noviny writes today.
The case points to bad regulations concerning arms exports. The Czech laws allows for various interpretations and a number of exceptions, the paper writes.

Firearms Amnesty in Slovakia Runs Until April 2006

Citizens of Slovakia who return their illegally held firearms to the police by April 14, 2006 will escape punishment for illegal possession of firearms.
This is possible under an amendment to the Gun Control Act regulating firearms and ammunition that has just come into effect in Slovakia.
The main aim of the amendment is to reduce the number of illegally held firearms in the country and to identify firearms that may have been used in criminal activities.

In an effort to cut down the number of illegally held firearms and to identify weapons that may have been used in criminal activities, cabinet ministers yesterday approved an amendment to the Gun Control Act regulating firearms and ammunition.
The amendment, proposed by opposition Smer party MP Robert Kalinák, stipulates that people who own firearms without a proper licence, will be able to hand them into the police without fear of punishment.
