More than 800 firearms were handed in during a two-week guns amnesty launched after a spate of shootings in Salford. Police urged people to "give up the gun" during the firearms and ammunition surrender across Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire and North Wales. Thousands of rounds of ammunition have been taken off the streets as part of a county-wide firearms surrender. A total of 3,737 pieces of ammo were handed over to police in Lancashire Police's Western Division which includes Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.
