Man Stands Trial in China Over Fatal Shooting of Five People

SHANGHAI - A man stood trial in a court in east China's Shanghai on Monday for allegedly killing six and injuring four others with guns and an iron pipe in June last year.
The defendant, Fan Jieming, 63, was charged with murder, robbery, and forcible seizure, illegal purchase and possession of guns, according to the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court.
The trial opened at around 9:30 a.m. and continued on Monday afternoon.

Brazilian City Registers 10 Gun Homicides in One Night

SAO PAULO – The Brazilian city of Campinas, the second-largest in Sao Paulo state, on the night of Sunday and Monday registered at least 12 murders, some of which appear to be linked, authorities said.
Police told Efe that 10 people were shot to death in two of the city's neighborhoods and at least two others died in hospitals where people wounded in the shootings were taken.
The shootings happened within a span of four hours, according to media accounts.

MOSCOW – Russia's Kalashnikov gun maker is planning to sell up to 200,000 hunting and sporting rifles and shotguns in the United States every year, the company said Monday.
The recently established Kalashnikov Concern, which includes Izhmash, Izhmekh and some other small-arms manufacturers under the famed Kalashnikov brand, is expected to sign an exclusive agreement with the Russian Weapon Company at the 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas in January.

MOSCOW - A legendary gun designer and author of the AK-47 machine gun Mikhail Kalashnikov, who died in December 2013, six months before the death wrote a letter of repentance to Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.

BOGOTA - More than 19,000 Colombians were recently arrested for illegal carrying of weapons, which was described by the national police chief, Rodolfo Palomino, as a blow against illegal gangs involved in murders and theft.
Palomino said they seized 34,155 guns without licenses and 18 percent of the detainees claimed that the seized weapon was not theirs.
