Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Augustine Gyennin, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, on Thursday called for the reining-in of locally-made arm manufacturers to help bring crime under control.
He said the soaring armed robbery threatening the security of law-abiding citizens was being fuelled by the production of locally-made arms and everything must be done to stop the producers.

The Obama administration on Friday proposed two new gun control regulations aimed at clarifying restrictions on gun ownership for the mentally ill and strengthening a database used for background checks before firearm purchases.
The measures are the latest step in a year-long push by President Barack Obama to tighten U.S. gun laws in the wake of a school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, where 20 children were killed.

A senior police officer based in Beitbridge has been arrested at a roadblock along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway after he was allegedly found in possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition stashed in his car.

Philippines Police Say 60-70% of Gun Licences Based on Fake Documents

Of the 1.7 million licensed firearms in the country, 60 to 70 percent were issued based on fake documents, the Philippine National Police said Friday.
Citing figures from the PNP Firearms Explosives Office, Police Chief Superintendent Louie Oppus said in a report on "24 Oras" aired Friday evening that he has ordered the investigation into the use of fake names and addresses as well as fake neuro-psychiatric results by applicants.
