Gun Owner, Felon Challenge 'Unconstitutional' Massachusetts Gun Laws

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court is expected to decide whether a state law that requires residents to apply for gun licenses with their local police departments is unconstitutional.
The challenge is being brought before the court by Paul W. Patten, a Fall River defense attorney who is representing Nathaniel DePina, 19, a New Bedford man serving a 2-year jail sentence after being convicted last year of illegally carrying a firearm.

Two innovative bills recently approved by the California Legislature are on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's desk. One would make the state's justice system fairer and more efficient. The other would improve public safety. Neither would add to California's fiscal woes, and both would set a worthy example for the nation.

The handgun used to shoot a Milwaukee police officer last week has been traced to Badger Guns, making that store the sole supplier of all the guns used to wound six officers in two years, police said.
Detectives traced the 9mm Hi-Point used in Wednesday's shooting to a sale at Badger in 2007, and police suspect the handgun — a cheap model favored by criminals — was purchased by a "straw buyer," someone who buys a gun for a felon.

Vacaville police and fire department personnel rushed to a popular gun store and shooting range Friday afternoon after a report of a shooting.
Just after 5 p.m., Vacaville police dispatch got the call that a person at Guns Fishing & Other Stuff on Butcher Road had been shot.
