The wife of a Conservative councillor told police about an arsenal of handguns he kept at his sprawling country home in revenge for having to give him £180,000 in a divorce settlement, a court has heard.
Alison Meurice called in police two days after she was forced to hand over part of her estimated million pound fortune to former husband Nick, who sat on Hythe Town Council and was chairman of his local crime-fighting group Hythe Against Crime.

Ukraine has earned at least 1-1.2bn [US?] dollars from the export of special goods and services in 2008, expert Serhiy Zhurets writes.
Despite a certain rise in sales year on year, the profitability of Ukrainian arms exports has been decreasing, due particularly to higher prices for ferrous metals and workforce and the hryvynya's depreciation, he noted.
