One by one, local governments have filed lawsuits that try to hold firearms manufacturers responsible for gun violence on city streets.
And, one by one, the lawsuits have either been dismissed by courts or dropped. Until last week.
In what gun control advocates quickly hailed as a landmark decision, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled last week that a lawsuit filed by the city of Gary can proceed toward trial.

EDMONTON — Almost four years ago, Shawn Hennessey and Dennis Cheeseman gave ranting, cop-hating James Roszko a weapon and a ride to the spot where Mounties were tearing apart Roszko's pot farm.
On Monday they stood to face Justice Terry Macklin in the dead hush of Court of Queen's Bench and paid the price.

UK Murder Gun 'Used in Six Other Shootings' Before Youth Shot Dead

A gun used to murder a man at a Chinese takeaway in Manchester had been used in six other shootings, police have said.
The silver revolver used to kill Halton McCollin, 20, at the China Garden in Stretford one year ago was found at a house in Parrs Wood Road last May.
Police have also released unseen CCTV footage on Youtube of masked men arriving and leaving the scene.

BURLINGTON, Vermont — The investigation into the fatal shooting of a St. Michael's College Professor in his Essex home has stalled.
John Reiss, 73, was shot dead in his home by a stray bullet four months ago. But police say they're waiting for ballistic tests before deciding whether to file criminal charges.
