Guns on Fast Track to Criminals

Most guns used in Cincinnati crimes come from the tri-state and move quickly — sometimes in less than a day — from legal dealers to criminals, according to a new federal report.
Eighty-three percent of the guns seized by Cincinnati police started out at dealers in Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana, and nearly 60 percent originated in Ohio, according to a gun trace report compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Taft Hints He Might Compromise on Safe-Storage, Concealed-Carry Bills

COLUMBUS — Gov. Bob Taft is hinting he might not oppose a bill allowing Ohioans to carry concealed weapons if it's coupled with his proposed safe storage of firearms legislation.
The safe-storage bill died in committee this year under heavy attack by sportsmen and gun interests, while the concealed-carry measure stayed bottled up in a House committee last year under threat of a Taft veto.
Taft indicated on Tuesday he might consider linking the two bills.

Gun Shop Owner, Clerk Sentenced

CHICAGO — A gun shop owner was sentenced to 2½ years in federal prison Wednesday in a crackdown on dealers who arm gangs. A sales clerk received a 15 months behind bars.
Chicago police officers testified they bought 25 guns from the B&H gun shop in Oak Lawn while posing as gang members.
