Ohio Must Shed its Tag as a 'Gunrunners' Paradise'
10 December 2000
Dayton Daily News (Ohio), Opinion
This is one distinction Ohio could do without: The Dayton Daily News analyzed U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms data for 1997 and 1998, the latest years available. The data was of guns the ATF knows were bought in one state and used in crimes in another. Only four states-Florida, Georgia, Virginia and Texas-sold more of such guns than Ohio.
The ATF traced more than 3,500 questionable Ohio gun sales between 1995-'98, which represents just a fraction of the... (GunPolicy.org)

10 December 2000
Oregonian (Portland)
RICKREALL — For hunter and collector Larry Dole, stepping into the era of Measure 5 was relatively painless.
A .22-caliber revolver caught his fancy at Saturday's Rickreall Gun Show at the Polk County Fairgrounds. The pistol was part of a private seller's collection, which until a few days ago meant that purchasing it would have been about as easy as buying groceries.
But that's changed with the voter-passed measure requiring criminal background checks on all buyers... (GunPolicy.org)

Roger Gray is a tall, self-assured man with a grey moustache and blue eyes. A 54-year-old former sergeant in S019, the Metropolitan Police's Armed Response Unit, he speaks softly but firmly, and exudes competence and conviction. 10 December 2000
Reuters
UTICA, New York — Most Americans agree that better enforcement of current gun laws will have a greater impact on limiting gun violence than adding more laws to the books, a Zogby poll reveals.
In the Zogby American Values poll of 1,028 adults nationwide, 52% of those surveyed identified strictly prosecuting anyone that uses a gun during a crime as the single best means of cutting down on gun violence.
Tied as the second most popular solution, at 15%, were banning... (GunPolicy.org)
