Andres Perez, a first-time gun owner, was so excited about his new Remington Viper .22-caliber rifle, the police said, that he invited two friends to his home in Brentwood, N.Y., on Monday afternoon.
At first, Perez, 21, aimed at some crows. Maybe he was too excited; he didn't hit a thing. Then, the police said, he fired 10 shots into the air, at a 45-degree angle, in the general direction of the Long Island Expressway, about two miles away.
