EDMOND, Oklahoma — Police officers now have the option of purchasing their own firearm or carrying one issued to them by the city. The police department recently ordered 80 handguns to be used by department officers, said Glynda Chu, Edmond police spokeswoman. She said 25 of the 45-caliber, semiautomatic handguns already were issued to the department's Emergency Response Team. Officials expect the remainder of the guns to arrive in early October, Chu said.
