At least three more police forces are considering using armed officers on routine foot patrols after examining results from the first experiment of its kind in mainland Britain. In October The Sunday Times revealed how Nottinghamshire police had put officers on the beat with Walther P990 automatic pistols after seeing five drug-related shootings a week in the county.
