Detectives in West Yorkshire investigating the death of a nurse were last night trying to establish how her estranged lover, a former SAS soldier, came to possess a Soviet-made AK-47 assault rifle. Vicky Fletcher, 21, a nurse at Pontefract General Infirmary, died after being shot by a man armed with a high-calibre automatic weapon outside a pub in Castleford.
