Although the cost of applying for firearms licences increased in 2015, forces still have to pay for administration and conducting background checks. Former Kent PCC Ann Barnes, replaced by Matthew Scott in May, had long campaigned against police covering the costs, claiming the process was only subsiding a certain group's hobby.
