An amnesty to allow illegal firearms to be surrendered or licensed will be introduced in Queensland Parliament today as part of stronger measures to ensure community safety. The amnesty encourages gun owners to surrender their weapon or obtain a gun licence without fear of being prosecuted. A similar amnesty in NSW last year netted 72,000 firearms in six months.
