The number of new gun licences issued on the Gold Coast has risen 36 per cent in the past two years, nearly double the increase across Queensland, with one criminologist attributing the rise to fears over home invasions. There are currently more than 155,000 firearm licence-holders in Queensland, 14,622 of whom are in the Gold Coast region.
