We saw it with the massacre at Virginia Tech in 2007, with the rampage at Northern Illinois University a year later, and now with Saturday's mass shooting in Tucson.
In each of these tragedies, the killer was a young man who, despite showing clear signs of mental illness, had no trouble purchasing a gun.
