To Curtail the Nutters, Don't Fret Political Civility, Do Severely Restrict Guns

Everyone is trying to draw political lessons from the shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Other than the obvious — that in a nation where any loon can own high-powered weaponry people will be shot — I'm not sure there are any.
True, the political atmosphere in America (and, to a much lesser extent, in Canada) is harsh. True also that right-wing cable channels like Fox News amplify such toxicity.
