Gun control advocates are opposing any attempt to change Tasmania's firearm laws. The state government is reviewing the 1996 Firearms Act, which was introduced after the Port Arthur massacre. The proposed amendments include removing the limit on the number of firearms for collectors and downgrading the classification of pump action shotguns.
