SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Supreme Court on Thursday struck down part of a law that adds 15 years to a prison term for having a concealed gun during a robbery because its punishment was greater than a more serious crime. The problem with the law was that the additional years made the penalty for having, but not using, a gun during a robbery, more severe than armed violence predicated upon aggravated robbery, where offenders let their victims know that they have a gun...
