OTTAWA, Ontario - Royal Canadian Mounted Police Superintendent Marty Cheliak says despite its critics the country's gun registry does help protect people. Cheliak, who is in charge of the gun registry that is under legislative fire, told a parliamentary panel Tuesday it is a fallacy that only people who do not register guns ever use them for deadly purposes, the Winnipeg Free Press reported.
