The Met this afternoon halted the deployment of regular armed patrols in London gun crime hotspots. The announcement came after the Evening Standard revealed the anger of residents' groups and Metropolitan Police Authority members. Opponents said there had been no consultation and there were fears it could lead to the arming of all police.
