SOUTH KINGSTOWN — The police say they are investigating the origins of an AK-47 rifle which a man brought loaded into the police station Thursday morning, saying he had taken it from two boys he had seen playing with it. The rifle's attached banana clip held 16 rounds of ammunition. A police report identifies the man who brought it in as Mark A. Smith, 51, of Dam Street.
