Gov. Bill Ritter acted wisely in vetoing a bill that would have reopened a loophole in a Colorado law that allows some gun purchases without a background check. It's disheartening and puzzling the measure got as far as it did before Ritter killed it Friday with a veto. House Bill 1180 would have allowed those who have concealed-carry gun permits to skip a routine background check before buying a firearm at a gun show or shop.
